Happy Moment #29: Cyclebar!
Not much in terms of racing and triathlons has made me super happy as of late. I am not sure what is going on but I think I am just a bit burned out. I have spent the last few years doing a lot of races. But not doing anything isn't really an option either. I don't like the way my body "feels" when I am not doing regular exercise -- maybe it is all in my head but I feel like I am more energized and "peppy" when I am doing something -- anything! -- that makes me sweat a little!
Enter -- Cyclebar! I did a free class a few months ago at their Creve Coeur location but I had a hard time dealing with traffic on the trips over there (from downtown at certain times of the day this commute is quite painful). I ended up going a few additional times after that first free class but the traffic issues kept me from going regularly.
And then a new location opened in Richmond Heights, just a hop and a skip from downtown! Since it opened last month, not only have I been going a few times a week but I even bought a membership (which I know will encourage me to go!).
So what is this whole thing exactly? Basically Cyclebar is a spin class. On steroids. With lots of motivation. The inside looks like a discotheque and the music is jammin'. The "bar" part of the class is the quick arm workout in the last third of the class (which I have yet to make it all the way through without taking a break!). So far I have enjoyed the instructors encouraging me to "be in the moment" because it isn't unusual for my mind to wander to all the stress going on in my life. I spend most of the classes trying to "catch" the beat since I am not fit enough to spin "at the beat" but I will get there someday. I leave sweaty and more focused on the day. And that is a win in my book.
The above is the instructor bike at the front (I thought those were candy corn for the longest time -- you know the jar on the bottom right. Wrong. They are earphones!)
Not the best pic but this is the actual studio! I love the third row -- bike 40 is my usual spot!
