Happy Moment #7: Miniature Making, Part 1
When I was a kid, one of my most favorite toys in the universe was a bag full of small plastic animals (mostly horses!). I kept that bag for a long time -- it was filled with tons of plastic little horses, as well as miniature people and even small trees and cars. Since my dad was in the Army, we moved around a lot but that bag of plastic animals went everywhere with me. At one house that we lived in, there was a large tree on the edge of the driveway, a tree with massive roots that were partly exposed. I can still remember the afternoons that I spent sitting in the roots of that tree, happily making up little scenarios among my animals friends and building and un-building my own little kingdoms.
Years later, I was captivated by a visit to see Queen Mary's dollhouse in Windsor Castle. And when I saw "captivated" I mean captivated! It was so hard to pull myself away from the dollhouse and I still have the book I bought on that visit with detailed pictures of all the rooms in the dollhouse.
So in this ongoing quest to seek more happiness, I was drawn to the idea of something involving miniatures. A few weeks ago, I happened to come across this kit (see the pic below!) which was a miniature sewing room that you make yourself! Click here for the kit itself!
I thought it could be fun to reacquaint myself with the world of miniatures by making one that involved one of my loves -- sewing! I wouldn't call myself the craftiest person in the world but I thought this could be fun! When the box came the other day, I googled reviews and found several folks on Youtube who have created videos of their versions of this kit. It took me a few days to track down some glue and paint but .... I started! I am pretty sure it won't look like the picture above but I worked on painting the frame of the room and gluing that part together. It didn't take too long for me to have already made a mistake (so, in other words, my floor won't look as nice as the one in the picture!)
There are a TON of pieces and this might take awhile but so far .... I am having fun! Stay tuned! (and hopefully there won't be a ton of four letter words in the update!)
